FOOD IS MEDICINE

When we all share what we have, no one goes hungry.

Tulare County grows an abundance of food, but still 1 in 3 residents face food insecurity. It is often the people growing that food who have the least on their tables.

Food sovereignty means being a part of every step of the food on your plate. Food Systems Change is both about how we grow food and how we share food. A positive future depends on our reciprocal relationships with the earth and with our neighbors.

We know the safest communities are the most connected communities – connected to each other, to the land, and the abundance of ancestral knowledge that reminds us everything we need we already have.

All programming is free and centers our most impacted community members.

GROW FOOD TOGETHER

Through our DEEP Roots program we collaborate and strategize with residents to build healthy, local, sustainable food systems outside of industrial agriculture.

We provide support for beginning home and community gardens, free seeds, seedlings, tools and resources. Along with educational workshops by and for community members in different locations around the county. Collectively, we steward a half-acre community garden in the back of the food bank where community members are invited to volunteer, grow, and harvest food together.

COMMUNITY HEALTH

Community Health programming offers classes and online resources for all ages to learn about healthy living and eating. Some topics we cover include (but are not limited to): low-sodium cooking, food preservation and reducing food waste, diabetic-friendly cooking, cooking with kids, meal planning + prep, healthy cooking on a budget, and much more!

Our Community Health program is currently evolving. Do you have a related skill to teach? Is there something you would like to learn? Send us an email! We would love to hear your ideas.
